David loved to be outside and play with all sorts of creatures. When he was about 7 we were playing outside in Minneapolis. He started catching bees and holding them in his cupped hands. He was getting stung. Jimmy and I told him to stop, but he didn’t listen. He was probably stung about 4 or 5 times. We tired of that and went inside to play a board game. Jimmy and I looked at David and couldn’t recognize him. He looked like a bumpy toad. We went screaming to Mom, who took one look and rushed out to the ER. David was allergic to bees. We didn’t know. From that point on, we had an epi pen with us. Mom was told that he might grow out of it. I asked him when he was in his 30s or 40s. He said, “I don’t know and don’t want to find out.”
