Barrel Sponge

Also a giant or at least very large (see yesterday's post). They are not a plant, but rather an animal. Their cells are interchangeable so they can easily regenerate. And they can live for a very long time, some estimates of up to 2000+ years. That is a very long life, indeed. They are filter eaters and serve an important role in the health of the seas and coral reefs. They can grow up to six feet in diameter and live as deep as 400 feet. I’m still stuck on the age and resilience of this animal to be able to live that long. Can you imagine? Certainly, we can wonder.
